Immigration Reform Bill Collapses in Senate

June 28, 2007

The Washington State Catholic Conference (WSCC) is deeply disappointed that the U.S. Senate failed to move comprehensive immigration reform legislation.  The legislation would have toughened border security, created a new guest worker program and, more importantly, allowed undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows and obtain legal status.

The 110th Congress is only six months into the session, and although it presently appears unlikely, the issue could be resurrected.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) worked to keep the legislation compassionate and family-centered during the debate and will continue to keep the needs of immigrants and their families alive in Congress.  Click here for more information about the USCCB’s Justice for Immigrants campaign.  Likewise, the WSCC will continue advocating for immigrants with Washington State’s Congressional members.
